The Creative Side of Exercise

“Fun” is not the first thought that comes to mind when you hear the word “exercise”. Most people assume that you have to work out in the gym everyday, with little to no variety in order to be considered healthy. That is far from the truth! What is true, is that you need to exercise at least 5 times a week for 30 minutes a day. Any physical activity that requires movement and burns calories constitutes as exercise. Here are some fun and creative ways you can incorporate exercise into your day!

Take a Scenic Stroll

Walking is a low-intensity form of cardio that yields great results! In just 30 minutes a day, you will improve your heart health while reducing the risks of diabetes, high blood pressure and high blood sugar. Walking also keeps your waistline trim, by eliminating excess fat. Taking in the beautiful scenery of a park is a bonus!

If you are a dog owner, this is a great activity your pet will enjoy too! It’s recommended towalk your dog once a day. If your dog is hyper, walking will burn off energy which will decrease behavioral issues. Your furry companion will also be able to maintain a healthy weight, which is a must for their longevity.

Bust Some Suds

Cleaning your house is a great way to get your daily dose of physical activity, as pulling, bending and reaching activates different muscles in your body. Vacuuming the floors engages your arms and core as you pull back and forth. Scrubbing the tub for 30 minutes can burn up to 300 calories! Instead of groaning about chores, think about the positive effects your labor will have on your body!

Jump Rope

Nothing brings back childhood memories likejumping rope. What used to be a pastime as a kid is actually an effective form of high-intensity cardio! Jumping rope for 30 minutes burns up to 300 more calories than a half-hour of jogging. You will reap the benefits of improved cardiovascular health, bone density and coordination. This is one of the best full body workouts as you are engaging the muscles in your legs, core and arms at once! And because jump ropes are portable, you can enjoy this exercise anywhere!

Play a Video Game

A few years ago, video games were said to cause extreme laziness and lack of physical activity. Now, thanks to movement-based gaming systems, you can enjoy a full workout from home. Systems scan your body, and based on your weight and height, a workout is customized for your specific fitness needs. These games are so effective, they alert you if your posture is incorrect. It’s as if you have a personal trainer in your home at a fraction of the cost!

Play with Your Kids

It’s no secret that chasing after children is a workout. A 30 minute game of hopscotch or hide-and-seek is definitely considered cardio! Gather up the kiddos and head to a playground for some fun on the swings and the jungle gym. Strengthen your arms by pushing your loves on the carousel! If you want a quick upper body workout, do a few pull-ups on the monkey bars. Enjoy this time outside with your family while reaping the benefits of physical activity.

There you have it! Staying fit does not have to be confined to the gym. You can literally find ways to get your daily exercise anywhere you turn. As long as you keep a variety of exercise methods available, you will never be bored with fitness again!
